Quicktime VR created virtual tours!

Virtual Reality Field Trips

QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) movies are created by stitching together photographs so that the viewer can pan around in a full 360 degrees. Some qtvr movies allow for full spherical viewing. To make the movie work, click and hold your mouse button down while panning over the image. You should be able to turn around in a full circle!

Virtual Field Trips are more than looking at images.

QuickTime VR allows the viewer to look around in a full 360 degrees and at times, in a full spherical view. This is almost as good as being there! As a 6th grade teacher I was able to not only explain geographic and geological features, I was also able to show images and QTVR movies. Students loved being able to interact with the image as well as seeing what was behind the image- what normally would not be shown in a traditional image.

QTVR images are easily annotated so that information is shown when the mouse hovers over specific parts of the image. The movies also can be shown in Google Earth kmz files- with a little html tweaking a simple VR can become a tour through a dynamic area.
